Three space Observatory is almost at the same time registered an unusual increase in the activity of a supermassive black hole located in the center of our galaxy, the milky Way galaxy. Now this black hole, known as Sagittarius A* (Sagittarius A*, Sgr A*), whose mass is 4 million times the mass of the Sun, produces ten times more bright x-ray flares than has occurred in earlier times.
Scientists from the Lawrence Livermore national laboratory, Lawrence (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, LLNL), which are in charge of the project Lattice Strong Dynamics Collaboration, has developed a new theory to explain why the so-called dark matter successfully "dodges" from direct detection, in spite of all the efforts made in this direction. In addition, in the new theory there is an explanation for the phenomenon of the "missing" mass of matter in the Universe, which was discovered by astronomers on the effects of light rays gravitational forces of galaxies, clusters of galaxies and other supermassive space objects.
Scientists have several plausible theories about the emergence of life on Earth. And one of these theories suggests that the meteorites that continuously "bombard" the surface of our planet, brought from space simple organic compounds called amino acids. For a very long time these compounds were combined with each other and, in the end, the world appeared first cells that are capable of independent reproduction. The mechanisms behind all this, was a mystery to scientists until recently, because, despite the possibility of self-play, these early cells cannot be called alive. And recently, a group of Japanese biologists have managed to create synthetic cells, capable of sharing, like the first cells that appeared on Earth. Their research and give scientists a...
How to be a combat drone of the future? Aerodynamic form, the maximum "invisibility", a complex and highly intelligent control systems and, of course, high-energy weapons, in particular, laser. Last of all the above is still merely the subject of science fiction, but such a situation will not be eternal due to the fact that the famous American defense company General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has already embarked on the development of high-power laser system designed for installation on unmanned aerial vehicles.
The Use of light defines the future of information and communication technologies - using optical components, the computers will gain the ability to work faster and more efficiently. Optical fiber has long been used for data transmission by means of light, but in the bowels of computers, the data is transmitted and processed is still the old-fashioned way, with the help of electrical signals and electronic components. It is the implementation of the electronic version of the data exchange between the CPU and RAM is the main factor limiting the performance of current computers, the bottleneck of the architecture of von Neumann. And to expand this bottleneck is quite insufficient to organize the optical interface between the memory and CPU, on both ends of...
New observations of some of the features found on the Martian surface called "recurring lines on the slopes" (recurring slope lineage, RSL), confirm the existence of water in liquid form on the surface of Mars. This fact has several far-reaching consequences in the first place, continuing to the present day search for traces of life on the red Planet. And second, water is the most valuable resource to be used by people who came to Mars as part of the first expeditions.
One of the main attractions of the Museum of Sand (Nima Sand Museum), ODA, Shimane Prefecture, Japan, are a huge hourglass, a height of 5.2 meters and a diameter of 1 meter. The amount of sand and the diameter of the bottleneck this watch is designed for counting of period of time, the duration of exactly one year. And, despite the fact that these sand clock began "ticking" on January 1, 1991, they have only recently been rewarded with being included in the Book of Guinness world records as the world's largest hourglass.
Monday, September 28, 2015 the Indian space Agency ISRO has made a successful launch of a heavy launch vehicle, PSLV-C30XL, which brought into orbit six satellites and the main "pearl" of its cargo - the first Indian space Observatory ASTROSAT. This Observatory, the instruments which can operate in several wavelength ranges will be used for more in-depth study of how global processes occurring in the Universe, and of processes occurring at lower levels, down to individual star systems.
Notorious company BAE Systems has developed a system BattleView 360, which with the functions of augmented reality aims to solve one of the main problems faced by the members of the crews of tanks and other armored vehicles. This problem is in small angles, which provide the usual means of review, and the system BattleView 360 solves the problem, making the functions of augmented reality "transparent" tanks, allowing the crew to better understand their environment and make decisions more quickly, which in some cases may depend on their own life.
In the field of science regarding the research and use of superconductors was recently registered another record breaking achievement. This achievement was a new material that can pass electric current without resistance at temperatures, which already falls within the range of ambient temperatures on the earth. However, in the coldest place on earth is in Antarctica, and in the coldest time of the year.
Fully reprogrammable optical chip that can handle and direct the photons of light for countless pre-programmed paths in the bowels of quantum computers has been developed by joint efforts of researchers from the University of Bristol, UK, and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone (NTT), Japan. The creation of a universal "linear optical processor" (linear optics processor LPU) is one of the main steps towards the creation of a universal quantum computers, ability to perform some heavy tasks, such as searching through huge databases, solving complex mathematical problems of a certain kind that are "too tough" even the most powerful modern supercomputers.
The Idea of creating a satellite network to provide global access to the Internet is not new. In the 1990s, bill gates financed the unsuccessful Teledesic project, which was planned to create an Internet-based network of satellites in low-earth orbit. And now a similar program promotes a whole bunch of companies and organizations, among which the most known are Google, Facebook, SpaceX and OneWeb project. According to a recently published report, the South Korean conglomerate Samsung is also planning to join this race. And, it is worth noting that Samsung-and there are all chances of success, because the company is engaged not only in home appliances manufacture, but also works in many other fields, ranging from medical technology and to computer-assisted...
Professor, Osaka University Hiroshi Ishiguro (Hiroshi) by Steve berry) became widely known in the world of robotics created by him and through his group photorealistic robots-androids Geminoid series, Kodomoroid, Otonaroid and others. Every creature Professor Ishiguro is becoming more realistic and gains additional abilities, increasing his resemblance to real people. You can verify this looking for a new job - a robot named Erica, whom, without doubt, can be called Hyper realistic.
In many movies, often glimpsed situation, which is the biggest nightmare for any parents, baby stroller, abandoned or steal out from the hands of the unwary parent, begins to roll, gradually increasing the speed, and leaves on the roadway or much worse, where the life of a child, lying in this chair, exposed to mortal danger. In order to avoid any such situations, experts are aware of the company Volkswagen has developed the idea of the stroller, equipped with a system auto MATIC braking that will stop the stroller, in the case that its motion will become uncontrolled. Moreover, these specialists have gone even further, by providing the stroller their own engine and elements of control systems, borrowed from the self-propelled motor vehicles are the robots,...
At the summit Flash Memory Summit, devoted to the technology of flash memory, Samsung has launched what is SSD drive has the largest capacity to date. Amazingly, the company has managed to cram into 2.5-inch enclosure SSD PM1633a of flash memory chips almost 16 terabytes, while conventional hard disk drives manufactured by Seagate and Western Digital, have a maximum capacity of 8-10 terabytes.
