Against the deputies of the State Duma elected in the Crimea, the Ukrainian Prosecutor's office opened a criminal case under the article on treason. This article provides punishment in the form of imprisonment from 10 to 15 years

Ukrainian prosecutors of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea has opened a criminal case against the deputies of the State Duma, elected on the territory of Crimea. This is stated in the message published on the website of the Department.

the Criminal proceedings initiated against the deputies who were on the list of "United Russia", Ruslan Balbec, Mikhail Sheremet and Natalya Poklonskaya — as well as deputies from single-mandate districts: Constantine Bakhareva, Svetlana Savchenko, Dmitry Belik, and Andrew Kozenko. Proceedings are opened as regards 1 article 111 of the Criminal code of Ukraine — treason, which carries a penalty of imprisonment for a term of 10 to 15 years.

In addition, the representative Mogherini noted that the observation mission of the OSCE ODIHR (Office for democratic institutions and human rights) and diplomats of the countries — members of the Union participated in monitoring the elections in Crimea and Sevastopol. "Support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine with the European Union remains unchanged," he concluded.

Even before the election, September 17, the state Department issued a statement in which it stressed that the United States considers illegitimate elections in the state Duma, which will be held on the territory of Crimea and does not recognize their results. "Our position on Crimea is clear: the Peninsula remains an integral part of Ukraine. Anti-Russian sanctions in connection with accession of the Crimea, will not be lifted until Russia will regain control over the region to Ukraine", — stated in the message.
