Pierre Bourdieu: a new stage

Lectures of Pierre Bourdieu Of "the state" is published in Russian language is extremely timely. The Russian political order entered into a new cycle of profound transformation. And the discussion about their character operates surprisingly poor set of explanatory tools. Rich intuitions and guidance the work of Bourdieu transcends the usual interpretations of the explanatory power and the priority date. The famous sociologist deployed characterizes the state as a principle of social organization and historical phenomenon, allowing to localize and problematize the current changes in a large historical scale.

the Publication of this course, read Bourdieu at the Collège de France to the beginning of the third phase of an ambitious project of sociology as a rigorous and critical knowledge in the Russian context. The first phase was initiated by translation in the early 1990s, the installation of articles Bourdieu, received with a storm of interest and included in the intellectual foundations of the new social Sciences. This stage was determined with dizzying expectations and a frightening uncertainty of the nineties. Then Bourdieu was read as a detective story about a brilliant expose of the secrets of the social power and class differences, which is heavy and clumsily disguised Soviet propaganda.

the Second step involves the translation of monographs from the "Practical sense" to "Public art." This is the stage of academic normalization programme Bourdieu in the 2000s, when its meaning and importance is certainly recognised not only supporters, but also ardent opponents and skeptics. Over the years, learnt basic thesis, although they were rarely based on empirical research.

Finally, the third phase opens with the translation main course at the Collège de France, not published in life. This is not just a large operating material different from that of all previously issued and meaningful, and stylistically. This invitation, which Bourdieu addresses us from the symbolic 1990-1991. The invitation locally to test hypotheses and to seriously discuss how to make the state. Today, the Russian political reality provides great material for analysis and comparison. It's important not to make mistakes, not to narrow caricature of the debate to the antithesis of "democracy or authoritarianism", not to rush between everyday Russian life "excellent" or "terrible."

In fact, a deep and extensive study Bourdieu "the state" — this is a rare chance to restart intellectually and socially responsible discussion of key issues of Russian political organization.

New to the Russian reader, the authors need the introduction and the context. Well-known authors need them twice. A term of 25 years, "Bourdieu in Russian" — it is an occasion to formulate some simple questions and re-evaluate its use of the proposed method. Therefore, the first task which I set in the Preface is to clarify the place, which over the years has taken Bourdieu in Russian intellectual space. As for a detailed introduction to the biographical and conceptual context of the work of Bourdieu in France, I suggested it earlier in the afterword to another Russian publication, "Public art". The second and even more important part of the introduction to this course — to discuss the theses of Bourdieu, the state, without notes hagiography, as a working tool. It's a big part of the Preface, with examples and Parallels. Serves the same purposes appeal to the courses at the Collège de France, another famous researcher, Michel Foucault, experiencing the peak of interest in Russia and in the world. By the way, foucauldians genealogy of the Board devoted to another book that came out simultaneously, "Pravitelei" Mitchell Dean.

Here are a number of the issues discussed in the introduction to the course Bourdieu: what is the definition of the state as the "only" way of thinking, and an organizing principle of consent; how are disinterest, universality and violence as principles of state organization; what role in the analysis of state power should be given to taxes; whether corruption is simply "the relic"; is agentnet public interest bureaucracy; whether the state interest the government's interest; what role do education and culture play in the production of state power; what is the position of Bourdieu in the discussion of the class nature of the state; what are the restrictions and limits imposed Bourdieu strong thesis about the state as a structure for integration of the social world; how to change the look of Bourdieu on the state during the course; supports the state center (Bourdieu) or "reverse" control (Foucault); as transformirovalsya violence with the establishment of a monopoly on its use.
