Browder was sentenced in absentia to 9 years in prison in Russia

Tver court of Moscow sentenced the head of Hermitage Capital of William Browder to nine years in prison, finding him guilty in deliberate bankruptcy and tax evasion amounting to more than three billion rubles. Protection Browder intends to appeal the verdict. The court ruled that, with Browder and his partner Ivan Cherkasov, who also takes on the case, more than four billion rubles at the expense of the victims. The consequence considers that they do not transfer taxes with several companies and contributed to their bankruptcy. The circumstances of the case date back to 1996. In 2013 Browder was sentenced in absentia in Russia to nine years of imprisonment on the case of tax evasion amounting to more than half a billion rubles. William Browder was one of the initiators of the adoption of the US "Magnitsky act," named in memory of the deceased in jail a lawyer Fund Hermitage Capital Sergei Magnitsky, who uncovered a scheme of fraud from the Russian budget. The document provides for visa and economic sanctions against Russians involved, according to Washington, to human rights violations.
