Six Months ago we introduced one of the most impressive features of Badoo — direct broadcast. Among other things, it allows users to Express gratitude to your favorite streamers in the form of gifts. We wanted to make these presents as bright and attractive, so I decided to revitalize them — in other words, to animate. And to make things even more interesting, we planned to update the gifts and animations every few weeks.
iOS engineers probably guessed, about how much work is involved: to remove old and add new animations, you need to make a lot of action from the client side. To do this, each release must be involved in the Android and iOS teams, and coupled with the time required for approval of the updates in the App Store, this means that the start of each release, with updated animations may take a few days. However, we managed to solve this problem, and now I will tell you how.
By the time we already know how to export animation Adobe After Effects (hereafter AAE) to clear our iOS app format with the library Lottie. This time we went a little further: I decided to keep all the current animations on the server and download them as needed.
