We continue the series of articles in which we remember the movies that tell about the most horrific examples of genocide. This time — about the Nanjing massacre, which lasted six weeks.
the Most infamous episode of mass murder by the Japanese the Chinese the Nanjing massacre, which began December 13, 1937 during the Second Sino-Japanese war.
Shortly before Japanese troops occupied Shanghai. In the Shanghai massacre was attended by about a million people. December 13, Japanese soldiers, unopposed, occupied the Nanjing. Twenty thousand Chinese men of military age were removed from the city and bayoneted. Then the Japanese began for the elderly, women and children.
Six weeks the soldiers with extreme cruelty and brutality staged hell on earth, known in history as the Nanjing massacre. People, regardless of age, stabbed with bayonets, buried alive, burned. Women, girls and old women were raped, and then killed with perverse cruelty. Pregnant women had their bellies sliced open. The Japanese staged competitions with swords. In one such won a Japanese soldier named Mukai, who killed 106 Chinese vs 105.
six weeks of hell in Nanking killed more than 500,000 people. Many of them were civilians.
the Japanese Authorities refuse to acknowledge the fact of what happened to this day. Apology for war crimes committed in China, Japan also to no avail.
Below movies about the Nanjing massacre...
a Heavy drama film Director At Jinu (a joint production of Taiwan and Hong Kong). The second title — "don't cry, Nanking".
Japanese troops enter Shanghai. Chinese doctor Shing Yuin along with his pregnant wife-a Japanese woman and two children fleeing from the besieged city in his native Nanjing, where they find refuge, but here come the Japanese, arranging with the unprecedented by cruelty outrages.
the Director doesn't stint on the depiction of war crimes of Japanese soldiers. The mass execution of Chinese men, the mass rape Chinese women and girls. Bloody dead bodies scattered along the dusty bombed-out streets. The throwing of one family and thousands of innocent people in a ruined and raped the city. They're just trapped residents who are unable to find refuge neither in their homes nor in the Nanjing safety zone...
"Black sun: the Massacre in Nanjing"
Shock film Tun FEI MOU, famously relishes bloody massacre scenes of Japanese soldiers on the residents of Nanking. Unimaginably bloody scenes slender string follow one another and are interrupted by inserts of documentary Chronicles, photographs, and discussion of the Japanese command situation in the city.
the Picture is pervaded with the atmosphere of madness. Tirelessly shooting guns, laying on the ground in neat rows of Chinese soldiers and civilians. Everywhere corpses, executions, blood, cutting off heads for fun or "training", rape all the women in a row (and little girls in particular), again, the executions and blood. The Yangtze river, which due to the thickness of the floating corpses are not visible from the water. A terrible scene of ripping the belly of a pregnant woman plunges into shock.
unlike the Directors of other films about the Nanjing massacre, neatly bypassing censorship and heartbreaking scenes, Tun FEI MOU seeks to achieve the effect of complete emotional immersion and reproduces the story almost verbatim, with its naturalistic nightmarish scenes. But as far as whether it's necessary for the audience?!. From the endless succession of bloody violence tired and squander some of the scenes. But still force myself to watch the tape until the end: because in reality, it was 500 000 victims of the worse.
Tun FEI MOU previously worked on the theme of genocide of the Chinese people, removing the film "Man behind the sun" (1988) about the inhuman activities of the Japanese secret laboratory of the famous unit 731. The terrible experiences of the Japanese on the Chinese and prisoners of other nationalities is shown without censorship and also shock.
Both films are not recommended for viewing for impressionable viewers.
"the Children of Huang Shi"
Historical war drama Roger Spotswood, based on the biography of George Hogg, who saved 60 Chinese orphans during the Sino-Japanese war.
a Young English photographer George Hogg (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) arrives in Nanjing to cover the Japanese invasion of the Chinese city. The Japanese have taken it and the resulting images are going to execute, but George rescues a Chinese rebel Jong (Chow Yun-Fat). Once in a place called Huang Shi, George becomes a mentor and almost a father to boys of different ages, orphaned, and abandoned by all after the Nanjing massacre. Later he is joined by an Australian nurse Lee Pearson (Radha Mitchell) and together with sixty children, they go on a long journey a thousand kilometers away from the military action – in a safe area.
life-Affirming drama about how a man finds his calling in the most unexpected circumstances and suddenly changes his life. Despite the fact that the calling is to help angry, disobedient and torn to pieces by the war boys. The main character gradually learns Chinese, teaching English, cleaning the shelter, gives warmth to orphaned, his love and tries to save them from the turmoil of this war-torn world.
the tape is not so much violence, but a lot of soul searching and suffering adults and children. The struggle of this strong and solid person (who in the beginning of the film he seems a child) is flavored generously magnificent scenery of China and light background music. Excerpts from interviews with several real men, the orphanage children of George Hogg, touched to tears. They survived until our days – and say the words of hot gratitude for saving my life...
"City of life and death"
Dark film Lu Chuan, beautifully filmed in black and white. The Director took a year to Chinese censors approved the script and then video tape, telling about the atrocities of the Japanese soldiers and how Chinese women hid men in the Nanjing safety zone.
On the background of mass death of not only humans but all sorts of morality shown fragments of human destinies. A lot of different characters, but one goal — to survive. On the background of the primitive brutality of Japanese soldiers raising questions of conscience, mind, and love of family. Here is everything in the previous films: mass executions, burying Chinese soldiers alive, killing civilians — but added detailed expensive battle scenes lost battle and a fascinating scene of a victorious March of the Japanese. Rather, the ceremony of the worship of the Sun with a beautiful rhythmic music of drums and sinister dance of the winners.
the Japanese need to give them a few days in several hundred Chinese women, otherwise they will destroy the refugee camp. Alive of the hundreds of remain one...
But there are the rare rays of light entering the end of the film, the father thrown out the window girls before execution, according to his executioners that his wife is pregnant again; the Japanese officer let go of the freedom of the boy and man and noble zastraivaya, unable to bear the atrocities of war...
German-Chinese-French film Florian Gallenberger based on the diary of John Rabe (Ulrich Tukur), who created the Nanjing safety zone.
German businessman, Director of the local branch of Siemens, a member of the Nazi party, lived in Nanjing for more than thirty years and is preparing to return to Berlin. But Nanking is bombed by Japanese aircraft. John Rabe opens the gates of the company and admits inside the frightened inhabitants. So, risking his life, saving him from bullets and Japanese swords 200,000 Chinese.
this is no place for pathos. The tragedy of the people, beautiful plans, kind, sympathetic and courageous John Rabe, sharp-tongued Dr. Robert Wilson (Steve Buscemi) to help the Chinese with him. Welcome and hope amid the terrible cruelty of the events.
the Scale tape with black-and-white documentary inserts about the horrors of Nanking. A film about the heroism like the heroism of Oskar Schindler, but perfect for a few years before the Second world war.
"the Flowers of war"
Beautiful Chinese drama of Zhang Yimou, based on the novel Yang Helin "13 flowers of Nanjing".
the Japanese troops entered Nanjing and begin their slaughter. Cynical American mortician, John (Christian bale) through a firefight, explosions and chaos breaks in the Catholic Church to prepare for the funeral of the deceased priest. In the Church, he is the only grown man among the young girls and prostitutes in a nearby brothel. John pretends to be a priest and tries to protect girls and women from the cruelty of Japanese soldiers from the Nahal and nihilists reincarnating hero.
the Film is striking, symbolic and lush. The image of the carnage is present, but limited. A large-scale battle scenes.
Multicolored shards of the stained glass Windows of the monastery cut through the air in slow motion, beautiful Shine and shimmer. The fireworks of the stones, degree of blood, sweeping bristling of Chinese soldiers, a bloody fountain of Chinese girls, Japanese pierced with a bayonet...
Emotionally powerful film about the selfless heroism of the people that this feat was not signed – whether American drunkard-the undertaker, whether some prostitutes from a brothel. The painting depicts the rebirth of the "sinners" through the fire and hell of war. This terrible and aesthetically beautiful creation accompanies a delicate, slightly Flirty and enveloping music Yacine Chinese lute and flute Xiao.
the Film was nominated for a Golden globe and won the Asian Film Awards.
